What is email aliasing?

Email aliasing (or sometimes called forwarding) is a method that forwards the emails sent to an email address to another email account. Users log directly into the other account, being either with your ISP, a third-party provider, and retrieve any awaiting email.

For example, let's assume that your current ISP email address is: yourname@yourisp.com.au. You are the owner of a business (which purchased a domain name and hosting), and wish to set up a different email address so that clients don't know which ISP you use, OR more importantly --- if you change ISPs, you don't need to change your email address. You would simply choose an email alias (from our list of domains) and forward it to your REAL address.

This underlying forwarding process is completely invisible to the senders.

What are the advantages of email aliasing?

1. It's Anonymous --- you can hand-out an alias without giving your "real" email address. Given that most people sign up to a free email service with a less-than-professional (daggy even) name --- this gives you an opportunity to present a more professional image. You can have many different aliases all pointing to the same "real" email address.

2. It's Relevant --- the email alias can be relevant to your business or industry, or even your "online persona", rather than being directly linked to you ISP (e.g. AOL, Bigpond, etc) or your free mail provider (Hotmail, Gmail, Yahoo! etc).

3. It's Cheap --- it's cheap to have a low-cost email alias pointing to a free email account like Hotmail etc, rather than paying for (often unnecessary) email or website hosting plans.

4. It's Portable --- you can change your actual receiving account many times, but your "public" address will always remain the same.

FAQ

Q. What is an Alias email?

An Alias email is a special email address that points to your real mailbox. When someone sends an email to your new alias email address, the email is then forwarded, inside our system, to your real address. The sender doesn't even need to know your real email address. Give everyone your easy to remember EmailAliasing.com email address instead of your real address.

Q. How do I setup an Alias?

It takes just three easy steps --- choose your domain, choose your alias, then pay & activate. Click here to go to the Application Page.

Q. Do I need to make any changes to my computer or Webmail to use an alias?

No. Email sent to an Alias will go into your real mailbox, so there is nothing to change to use an Alias.

Q. How do I check for any email sent to my new alias?

By checking your normal/real mailbox, you will get any email sent to the alias. An Alias isn't an email box, it just forwards your email to your existing mailbox.

Q. Can I change or modify my alias address?

Yes you can. Please Contact Us if you wish to cancel or change your alias.

Q. Is my Alias ready to use as soon as I add it?

An Alias can take up to 4 hours to become ready to use after being added.

Q. If I cancel my email alias, can I get it back?

Yes - provided nobody else has claimed it, you can get it back. If someone else is using it now, then it is theirs. Sorry. Don't delete what you want to keep!

Q. If I change my alias, will I still get emails from my old alias?

No - your old alias will be deleted, so emails sent to the old alias address will not be forwarded on to you. If somebody else has claimed your old alias, they will receive any emails sent to it.

Q. Can I tell if someone else used an alias address before me?

No. While we do track all users of an alias, that information is not available to others outside our company. A deleted alias will stay out of circulation for 6 months before being assignable again, but there is no guarantee that it has not been used, or how it was used by prior customers. Picking an uncommon or unusual email address can help make sure it has not been used before.

Q. How do I make my outgoing messages show my new Alias, instead of my real email address?

If you are using Outlook express do the following: - Click on Tools. - Click on ACCOUNTS and then the MAIL TAB. - Click on your ISP email account, then click on PROPERTIES to the right. You will be on the GENERAL tab of properties. Change the email address to your alias. Leave the Logon Info at its current settings.

Q. Can I delete or cancel my alias?

Yes. Please contact us if you wish to cancel or delete your alias. Refunds do not normally apply.

Q. How many alias addresses can I have?

You can have as many aliases as you like, subject to our normal application conditions and charges.

Q. How much does an Alias cost?

6 months - AUD $30.00 GST Inc 12 months - AUD $50.00 GST Inc *pricing includes GST in Australia, or administrative charges for international clients.

Q. Are the listed alias address domains my only choice?

Yes. Only the domains listed are useable.

Q. Can I get SPAM and Viruses through my Alias?

Virus or SPAM can be sent to an Alias address, but any Virus software that monitors your real email address will also check any mail sent to your alias.
